Our Story
The Biofactory is a biomedical incubator in Singapore which catalyzes the commercialization of innovative biomedical technologies. We identify, evaluate, nurture and support groundbreaking research sourced from world-class research institutions. In the process, we have successfully spun-off biomedical start-ups.
We have established strategic partnerships with qualified international distributors for our biomedical spin-offs. Through annual attendance in international conferences such as Medica Trade Fair and The European Society of Human Genetics, we also expand the outreach and visibility of our spin-offs. This is coupled with a strong commitment in delivering products with high quality and standards through the implementation of Quality Management Systems and ISO -13485/ 9001 certified manufacturers.
The Biofactory possesses an unprecedented collection of resources through close relationships with quality distributors, key industry leaders and experienced management executives. This accelerates the pace of transforming promising biomedical technologies from laboratories into concrete and complete products to address unmet clinical needs.
The Team
The Biofactory is equipped with the right expertise to incubate biomedical start-ups. With an experienced Board of Directors, The Biofactory offers the knowledge and support necessary for a biomedical start-up to be successful.
Mr. Gabriel Tan
Programme Director
Mr. Gabriel Tan has over 10 years of experience in the development of programmable electronic medical devices, architecture and design of software systems, establishing and maintaining an ISO 13485 compliant quality management system for medical device development and manufacturing. He is a key member of the management and project lead for The Biofactory’s incubatees. He is also currently the technical Principal Investigator of a 1.25 million I2Start grant.
Mr. Ron Wight
Technical Director
Mr. Ron Wight has more than 30 years of industry experience in mechanical engineering, product design and development, manufacturing and assembly of medical devices. He was previously Chief Technology Officer and Technical Director at Forefront Medical Technology Pte Ltd, a global medical device contact manufacturing firm. Ron holds an MSc in Advanced Manufacturing Technology and Management from the University of Southern Australia, as well as an MBA from the University of Adelaide.
Mr. Theodore Tan
Managing Director
Mr. Theodore Tan has over 15 years of experience in successfully marketing and distributing medical and diagnostics devices, as well as five years of experience in the development of medical devices. He is also the co-founder of Dyamed Biotech, a major supplier of diagnostic assays and test equipment to hospitals and labs in the Asia Pacific region. Mr. Theodore Tan is one of the co-founders of the Biofactory Private Limited and he currently serves as the incubator manager.
